Dear Participants!
Thank you very much for the wonderful time, fruitful discussions and interesting presentations. It was a pleasure and a honour to host you in Warsaw. I hope you have arrived home safely and keep good memories from the Conference.
Good luck for the colleagues from Mekelle, the organizer of the 20th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies!
The Organizers.
Welcome to the official website of the 19th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies (Warsaw 24-28 August, 2015). All scholars interested in taking part in the Conference are kindly asked to follow this website for up-to-date information.
19th ICES will be held in Warsaw and organized by the University of Warsaw.
The aim of the Conference of Ethiopian Studies is to allow scholars, students, and others interested in Ethiopian Studies to present the outcome of their research, to exchange their experience, knowledge and ideas on different aspects of Ethiopian culture and that of the Horn of Africa, as well as on their history, and the interconnections within the area and with the outside world.
Dear Participants and Panel Organizers!
The organizers in Warsaw are fully aware that for some participants whose abstracts were accepted, it may be difficult to arrange a trip to Warsaw for the 19th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies. With the view to make it possible to participate in the event for the biggest possible number of the authors of accepted presentations, we would like to encourage those for whom coming to Warsaw is difficult, to read their presentations via video conference with the help of skype.
Please, consider this option. If you decide not to participate in person but deliver your presentation via skype, we would be very grateful for the information.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE ETHIOPIAN PARTICIPANTS!
Dear 19th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies Participants from Ethiopia!
We would like to draw your attention to the procedure of obtaining Polish visas in order to participate in the 19th ICES in Warsaw in August 2015. Please read it carefully as it is a very important information.
All the participants from Ethiopia will need to apply for visa to travel to Poland. To start the procedure the letter of recommendation issued by the Institute of Ethiopian Studies will be necessary. Only after receiving such a letter the application will be accepted by the Polish Embassy in Addis Ababa. The IES will do this for participants from AAU, based on the capacity of support it will secure sand along with other means to be tried and secured as fast as possible. Without this letter the applications will not be considered. For the Participants from Regional Universities, the list of those whose abstracts have been selected, will be forwarded from the IES based on the Joint official letter transmitted in soft and hard copies to each presidents of the regional Universities, in October or even after in the last months of the year 2014, so that each university will try to support participants.
The Polish Embassy in Addis Ababa would like to make a procedure of granting visas as smooth as possible and the messages to the Embassy’s offices - apart from these recommended by the IES - disturb the daily routine of the office and make the assistance to Ethiopian citizens more difficult. Therefore, if you have some urgent questions regarding the procedure you should first contact the Organizing Committee in Warsaw at 19ices@uw.edu.pl.
VERY IMPORTANT!
The visas will only be granted to those who will be on the list delivered to the Polish Embassy by the IES. The closing date for the visa applications is 28 June, so we request every participant from Ethiopia to try and complite your visa process by mid-June.
Moreover, please note which documents are necessary when you contact the IES:
1) a letter from your university stating that the participant is a staff member of the university
2) a travel insurance receipt
3) air ticket showing round trip.
Please do not contact the Embassy individually!
